Development Plan
Update - December 2011
• The Youth Program Committee (YPC) held two special meetings this year with the community. We would like to see more attendance at these meetings and participation in this program from students in our community, grades 6th -12th, and their parents or guardians. Additional volunteers are welcome to join the committee, including 2 students (middle and high school).
• Kings Park Estates is approved to offer service-learning (community service) projects to Baltimore County Public Schools students, grades 6th - 12th. Several students in our and the Birchwood Community have earned service-learning hours by distributing our newsletter and event flyers. A 9th grader in our community developed a flyer to promote our service-learning program and she contacted the local schools to promote our program. The flyer was emailed to the school coordinators and other community Presidents. Also, a 12th grade student from the Birchwood Community removed leaves from the flowerbeds at our entrances. See more information about our program on our website ‘Youth Program’ page.
• We continue to offer the following service-learning projects: beautification (maintaining flowerbeds, community cleanup); prepare and distribute community event flyers and newsletters; serve on KP Youth Program Committee (2 students only); tutoring; mentoring; and other community activities. YPC is open to other project suggestions.
• We received a $1,908.00 grant through the Baltimore County Police Department Youth Activity Grant. This grant will fund most of our program activities during the grant award period July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012.
• SOCIAL EVENT: Proposed--During the week of December 26th while schools are closed for the holidays, YPC plan to have a FREE bowling event at the Kings Point Bowling Alley on Liberty Rd for up to 25 students (6th -12th grade), plus President Dyson and at least one other adult volunteer. This event is funded by our grant. If interested in participating in this event or have any questions about our program, contact President Keith Dyson at 410-922-0448 or send an email to information@kingspark21133.org.

Development Plan - July 2011
• Youth Program Committee (YPC) established. Additional volunteers are welcome, including 2 students (middle and high school).
• The Baltimore County Police Department completed criminal and MVA background checks for the 7 volunteers we currently have, who will be working directly with the youth. Although the MVA check was recommended by the Police Department, the volunteers will more than likely not be transporting the youth since most activities will be in the community or at the Randallstown Community Center. The parents or guardian will be expected to transport their youth.
• The initial targeted population is Kings Park Estates residents ages 12 - 18 years old.
• Initial activities this program will offer are mentoring sessions, career workshops, social and academic activities (i.e. movie/game night, visit museums).
• YPC submitted an application for the 2012 Baltimore County Police Department Youth Activity Grant to assist with funding our activities. The grant award period is July 1, 2011 through June 30, 2012. YPC should know by June 30, 2011 if application approved.
• Baltimore County Public Schools has approved the Kings Park Association (KPA) as a site for students to gain service-learning (community service) hours. As students wish to participate in our service projects, they must obtain a signed pre-approval form from their school to ensure the service-learning coordinator and their parents/guardians are aware of the students' activities. Several students in Kings Park have already earned hours by distributing flyers for our Community Document Shred Day.
• KPA will be listed in a countywide resource directory that is provided to service-learning coordinators at every middle and high school. Of course, Kings Park youth will receive priority consideration for our projects.
• The following service-learning projects will be offered: beautification (maintaining flowerbeds, community cleanup); prepare and distribute community event flyers and newsletters; serve on KP Youth Program Committee (2 students only); tutoring; mentoring; and other community activities. At a recent meeting with the community about this program, it was suggested that we consider service-learning projects to assist the senior citizens in our community such as lawn care, recycling, and cleaning up trash in their yards. YPC is open to other project suggestions.
• YPC will continue to promote our youth program to gain more interest, especially from Kings Park youth and their parents. Some suggestions from our youth and their parents include the youth passing out flyers at bus stops or sport events; announcements through schools newsletters; reach out to the schools’ service-learning coordinators and counselors; table at “Back to School Night” and orientations; contact local churches, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts troops; develop a Facebook page; and ensure we target the following schools that most of our community youth attend: New Town High, Deer Park Middle, Western School of Technology & Environmental Science, and Carver Center for Arts and Technology.
If any questions or suggestions, contact Kings Park Association President Keith Dyson at 410-922-0448 or send an email to information@kingspark21133.org.
